Last week we went to Nalerigu First Baptist for church but this week we decided to attend the Presbyterian Church known as “Presby.” Baby and her family attend that church so we thought it would be nice to see some familiar faces.
Trey sure was excited to see Baby when she came in. He immediately reached for her and she took him to the children’s church for the rest of the service.
One interesting thing was that they have two offerings. At the start of the service they announced that last week’s first offering was 100,000 cedis ($10) and the second offering 75,000 cedis ($7.50). During the offering song we danced up and gave our offerings into a plastic bowl. Then when everyone had gone up the song continued and they swapped the plastic bowl for a straw one and everyone danced and gave again.
Most of the service was in Mampruli but Baby’s husband Joseph gave the sermon in English with a translator repeating every sentence in Mampruli. I tried my best to sing along with the Mampruli hymns since we had song book. If I were more up-to-date on my Presbyterian creeds I could have recited those along with them as well.
