This past Sunday we attended the village church of Kolinvaai south of Nalerigu. Pastor Sugri invited William to preach – his first time in Ghana. A well-educated church member provided the translation from English to Mampruli since only a few of the church members speak English.
One thing William did differently from his preaching in the US was to use the New Living Translation for his Scripture reading. He finds that northern Ghanaians understand its English much better than NIV and ESV (and especially KJV!) while the NLT isn’t as much of a paraphrase as the Good News Bible is.
