Last Friday Trey was complaining of headaches and bellyaches during school. I thought he was just looking for a way out of schoolwork but when I gave him a break he went to lay down and slept. And slept. And slept. 10 hours later he had a burning fever and chills so we took him up to the hospital to get a blood smear. Our suspicions that he had malaria were confirmed.
It may seem odd to say I was glad to find out he had malaria, but I was. Knowing he had malaria meant we knew how to treat it – we weren’t dealing with some mysterious tropical illness. Heidi got the meds and we started him on the treatment along with an electrolyte powder.
We sent some emails and requested prayer support on Facebook and the response was fantastic. So many people interceded on our behalf and we saw the Lord work in a wonderful way.
By Saturday evening his fever was gone and he was eating a little. By Sunday he was so much better – even going on a walk around the campus with Heidi. On Monday he was playing outside and even though we gave him the day off from school he probably could have returned.
A 48-hour recovery from a confirmed case of malaria is amazing! We thank the Lord for protecting our son and we thank you all for your prayer support. Here is a special thank you from Trey himself:
