August here is the peak of rainy season and the month started with nearly 24 hours of non-stop rain. We hit the road Sunday morning to go to our village church and the drive that normally takes us 30-40 minutes took over an hour and half.
The government recently dumped and spread dirt on the rough roads to try to improve them. However, they didn’t add gravel or pack the dirt down. So it all turned into a giant mud pit – kilometer after kilometer of mud.
Despite our Toyota HiLux’s 4wheel drive, we got stuck in the mud on the way to church. I got filthy trying to jam branches and rocks under my tires to get traction. Finally, two passer-bys stopped to help push me.
After church, we got stuck three more times on the way home! Thankfully, God always provided nice strangers to help push us out. Then we slipped & slid all the way until we finally got home at 3:30pm. What an adventure!
