Jakob (left) and Felicitas (center) are two young German volunteers living in our small town. They serve with a small German NGO program that acts a bit like the US PeaceCorps. After graduating highschool they can volunteer to serve a year abroad. Most go to South America, but two are posted each year to Nalerigu (you may remember last year’s Teresa & Charlotte at Nakpanduri). The duo works with the Nalerigu Assemblies of God Feeding Center and at a private school called Miracle Brain Child. Feli has also been volunteering part-time at our hospital’s OPD clinic.
Earlier this year, program supervisor Stephanie (right) asked us to serve as mentors for their volunteers and we agreed. It’s been a pleasure to have Jakob and Feli around and they have become good friends. Since they are just 18 years old, they make us old folks feel younger when they hang out with us. We’ve made it a habit of getting together every Sunday night and having dinner & a movie. They also come to our weekly BMC station meeting in which the volunteers get together to enjoy a meal, worship the Lord, study Scripture, and pray together.
By the way, Jakob has a blog you can visit if you can read German (or know how to have your browser translate it for you).
