I’ve been working on a video project about the courtyard poundings the women in our community do together. Here are two songs one awesome lady sang yesterday at the one I attended. They are in Kusaal but a friend helped me translate:
The first has some lyrics along the lines of:
“A living being? Fear him.”
“Is this t.z.’s child?”
“Is this antelope’s child?”
“If Man reaches you, he’ll kill you!”
After each line the group responds with: “Man. Fear him!”
About half-way through the song changes to a simple one about Scorpion, singing:
“Rain beats Scorpion and he comes out and roams”
with the group calling back “Rain beats Scorpion!“
