Dr. Fort and his family are legendary in Nalerigu. They were here for over a decade in the 80s & 90s and Dr. Fort served as a surgeon at BMC. Many locals tell me he could speak Mampruli better than any other Western.
After Nalerigu, they moved into another role with our organization and it had them living in Ouagadougou. We enjoyed their occasional visits back to Nalerigu and we saw them a few times when we went to Ouaga. They often had us over for dinner and were always an encouragement to us because they understand the challenges of our work first-hand. (
Now, they are moving again – this time back to the US. Those of us in the area threw a send-off party for them and we all pitched in to have an awesome painting made that chronicled their decades in Africa.
We’ll miss you, David & Laurel!
