On the morning of January 21st we got a special treat when the earth cast its shadow across a full moon. The event was called a “super blood wolf moon eclipse.”
Nalerigu’s location was close to the area most covered by the eclipse so the effect was very pronounced. I got up around 4AM to go out and shoot the spectacle.
In the early days in Mamprugu when a lunar or solar eclipse occurred, the villages’ drummers would be dispatched to play their drums loudly. The idea was to make a loud noise and beg the shadow not to swallow the moon or sun. Guess it always worked!
