This past year’s rainy season was a bad one and it caused a lot of damage to homes in the village of Konlinvai where we have a Baptist church. The pastor reached out to me about helping families who suffered tragedy when 45 living quarters collapsed due to the heavy rains.
Through a Send Relief grant, we were able to get over $7500 to buy zinc roofing, wood and nails allowing the affected families to rebuild and be prepared for the coming rainy season. Three households had widows as their head of household (James 1:27).

The pastor and I met with the heads of households when I delivered the roofing materials to the church. I had a chance to share the gospel and explain to them how this sort of community work was part and parcel of the local church’s mission. It was a great opportunity for them to hear the good news of Jesus Christ as well as experience His love through the church.
Watch an update video I made during the project below:
It is a wonderful example of a local church following the second greatest commandment to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:39).
Over the next few months the families began demolishing old rooms and rebuilding their mud walls. Though they were responsible for the labor, members of the church assisted the families in the construction work. When a house was ready for a roof, the church delivered the roofing materials to them to finish the project. Now they are all finished and ready for this next year’s rains.

These sorts of projects that meet human needs while partnering with the local church to make Christ’s name known are exactly what Send Relief is all about. If you are able, I would commend you to support their work around the world by visiting SendRelief.org and giving today.
I am also proud to share that our home church of Seminole First Baptist in Florida donated to Send Relief the full amount of the grant we received in order to cover the costs of this project. We are so grateful to have them as partners in our work here in Ghana.
