While Nalerigu is the traditional seat of the Mamprusi people group, there are many other ethnicities represented in the town and region. One of those is the Fulani who are also referred to as Fulbe or Peul.
Pastor Alex is a pharmacy worker at BMC who is Fulbe. He started a church many years ago to reach out specifically to the Fulani population in the area. However, over the years, it has come to be predominantly attended by Mamprusi in the community. The services are made up of worship songs and prayers in English, Mampruli and Fulbe.
This is particularly impressive because there is a lot of racial prejudice against the Fulani in Northern Ghana. It’s great to see that the love of Christ can overcome such sinful attitudes and behavior. We are one in the Spirit!
On this recent Sunday when we attended, part of the service was dedicated to a baby naming ceremony for one of the hospital security guard’s newborn.
