When we first started spreading the news about coming to Africa one of our friends left a comment on the blog asking me to “Please do your best to capture that night sky on film.”
Well, Faith, I’ve been working on it. I was in a village the other night with no electricity and harmattan dust wasn’t too bad so I gave it a go. I had to leave the shutter open for extremely long periods and after several attempts I finally gave up to go to bed. The last shot I got is a step in the right direction.
For this photo I left the shutter open for over 15 minutes at f6.3 and ISO200. I was surprised at the amount of color I was able to capture in the starlight. Be assured I’ll be trying this again with even longer exposures. Disclaimer: the compressed web version doesn’t look near as nice as the original hi-res image.
