This Sunday morning we decided to mix things up a bit and visit a new church plant we’d heard about in the next town over. It was started by Nalerigu’s First Baptist Church and is meeting in a classroom at the town’s primary school.
Being a new church plant, it is extremely small. Those in attendance were the pastor, his wife, two elderly ladies, a young man and about nine kids.
As often happens to me, I was asked to preach as soon as I showed up. Here that is a show of respect for special guests. I’ve gotten used to it so I always have a couple messages in my back pocket.
It was an exciting day for me because it was one of those milestone moments where I realized I was progressing in my language. For the first time, I could preach (portions of) my message in Mampruli and have someone else translate me into English! I also read my entire Scripture passage (Luke 16:19-31) in Mampruli and no one was repeating it for me to correct my mistakes.
Please pray for this new church plant’s pastor and members. They have a big task ahead of them as they share the Good News in their community and disciple those that join their church.
