Last September, I was in northeastern France with a friend who was president of his local Disc Golf Association. He invited me to join them on a Saturday morning to play a course in a park that he had created. It was a lot of fun and gave me the inspiration to try to create one here on our hospital campus around the houses.
I got the official dimensions of the baskets and created a wire mockup. I bought all the materials from a local hardware supplier and took them to the welder I’d previously used to upgrade the hospital fence. It took several weeks of following up and keeping them focused on the task (my crazy recreational project wasn’t a high priority). They finally finished the baskets and poles and I brought them home.
At home I anchored each pole into a cement base in an old tire. Then I painted them blue and cut chains to hang in the baskets.
We finally got them setup around the field next to our house. I’ve yet to have any volunteers take me up on a game but we’ve played several times as a family. Two baskets are in place and the third is just waiting for chains (the supply in town ran out).
